Those who have an excellent command of Japanese, English, Chinese, adn
Korean will open a new era!
The world is changing day by day. The ability to cope with such diversity
world is becoming essential. Just having an academic background or mastering
foreign languages is not enough to survive this age. Now that the wave
of borderless competition is advancing, those who can state their opinion
based on the knowledge of culture, tradition, and values of other country
are much more likely to survive.
I believe that the KKG College of Foreign Languages (CFL) is one of the
best institutes to educate people to adapt approriately to this rapidly
changing global era
I am looking forward to meeting students with an earnest desire to achieve
their goals.

Create Multi-linguists in Four Languages
◆Is school necessary?
I've always been thinking of how to operate a school in which students
can acquire knowledge and intelligence. "Perhaps school is not necessary. To reach the CFL's
educational goal might be impossible. Students might enter the CFL simply
as a step to university or merely to obtain a graduation dilpoma. It is
not surprising that since the CFL is newly established and has not yet
attained a reputable academic record, it doesn't attract many students
at the moment."
◆Multi-linguist in Four Languages: Is it possible?
Is it possible for Japanese students to handle new computer skills and
master Chinese and Korean, on top of English which they can hardly learn
anyway? Is it just a waste of time and money to learn so many things at
once?
◆Giving too many instructions prevents students from learning
I think that one reason why students cannot achieve the CFL's educational
goal at the moment is that most time and space in class is determined by
teachers, not by students. As a result, desks equipped with computers are
placed along the wall and movable chairs are used in PC rooms. Four or
five hours of language lessons using computers would help students develop
their abilities. Teachers' duties, I think, should be more to design language-learning
programs to help students over any hurdles on the way. Teachers should
concentrate more on guidance than simply teaching.
◆Practice-worm could become four-language multilingual
In my ideal school there would be students studying English, Chinese, and Korean in the same classroom while other students are reading, writing, and having a discussion; in one corner of a classroom a teacher explains using a projector while students are working on their own project in another corner.
Good examples of proof that practice is a key to mastering techniques
are Ichiro, a baseball player, Mr. Habu, a Japanese chess player, and Mr.
Tsuji, a blind pianist who encouraged the whole nation. CFL is a school
to make a students "a practice-worm of language learning".
◆School mottos are displayed on the windows: "Shikan Roudoku - Shikan Hiisha, Read Aloud - Write Aloud", "Kotoba Shuren Dojo, Kotoba Training School".
When the latest building was constructed in Yahata, Shizuoka, then principal,
Setsuko Tokumatsu, wrote the slogan on the window above the entrance. KKG
buildings are designed to realized these mottos.
◆Witness the time and predict the future
Having lived for 62 years, I'm losing confidence in myself and the future of Japan. The Japanese cannot survive unless we learn English, Chinese, Korean, and computer skills. This country needs person who face the world and accept history and the reality of Japan and Asia. Over the next thirty or fourty years, we Japanese will have a rough road ahead of us. Therefore, we should be prepared to confront the hard reality now. |
